Title: Litigation paralegal
Division: Dispute resolution
Location: London

I studied the LLB (Hons) Law with Accounting at the University of Portsmouth after which I worked at The Insolvency Service before moving to Wilberforce Chambers.

I joined Herbert Smith in January 2008 and am currently studying the LPC part-time at BPP Holborn, London. Working as a paralegal was the obvious next step for me during this period of my career.

One of my most memorable high points so far, has been as part of a team representing claimants, Maple Leaf Macro Volatility Master Fund and Astin Capital Management Limited, in a contractual dispute that went to trial.  The claimants were successful in their claim under contract.  My work was varied and included compiling trial bundles, assisting during the trial, and attending client meetings and being involved in discussions. This was all invaluable for my legal development.

I appreciate the positive attitude to career progression and collegiate atmosphere at Herbert Smith, where everyone in the team is friendly and approachable - willing to give help and guidance when required. The firm also understands the necessity of a work-life balance, and makes every effort to accommodate individuals’ needs.

As part of this there are many sporting activities and other associations that employees can participate in. I play for the Herbert Smith netball team and will be part of the Herbert Smith team competing in the London Triathlon 2009, to raise money for Great Ormond Street.

My time at Herbert Smith has been an investment in my future.  The firm is widely regarded as a top tier practice in transactions, projects and in my field, litigation. The experiences I have gained stand me in good stead for my career in the law.
