Francis Guillen
Title: Regional senior IS manager
Department: Information systems
Location: Hong Kong
I graduated from Kwantlen University College, Canada with an associate degree in Computer Information Systems Technology. I then continued my studies overseas at the University College of Dublin where I graduated with a Bachelor in Business Studies (Management) Honours programme.
I joined Herbert Smith Hong Kong in October 2000 and as the regional senior IS manager my remit covers four different countries and four unique cultures in Asia. Within this region the ISD team is involved in global application rollouts, office openings and moves and infrastructure implementations.
Although my role involves a fair amount of travel, I still find time to contribute to the social side of the Hong Kong office. I am currently the chair of the Hong Kong social committee where we organise enjoyable monthly events for staff.
I am also a member of the IT heads forum in Hong Kong where IT issues are discussed with other City firms. Herbert Smith is respected as a contributor and involved in many discussions.
I would describe Herbert Smith as having a “people culture” because of the way we treat our employees - encouraging self development, training and involvement on a global scale. If you are looking to work globally I would say that Herbert Smith is an ideal employer. The opportunity to travel to different parts of the world definitely motivates me and my team.
