Emi Rowse
Title: Senior associate
Division: Dispute resolution
Location: Hong Kong
I studied the LLB at Bristol University and in July 2008 joined Herbert Smith.
The reason I chose Herbert Smith was its excellent reputation in dispute resolution. Having worked in the Hong Kong office I would add that Herbert Smith’s approach to law is very considered and not content with anything but the highest of standards.
I enjoy all aspects of the work, but my highlights so far have been working on matters involving high profile individuals and cases in Hong Kong, providing an opportunity to work with a variety of clients and very experienced London and local Counsel. I have also been given the opportunity to explore new areas of commercial litigation.
The firm’s culture could best be described as professional, sensible and practical. It is also very sociable. The end-of-month department drink and the annual department conference is a great way of getting to know your colleagues in an informal setting.
Herbert Smith really encourages you to reach your potential - being surrounded by intelligent, hard-working, high calibre lawyers motivates you to perform at your best. At the same time, the people here are not overly competitive - they are friendly and approachable, creating a good work environment.
By joining Herbert Smith, I have moved away from the comfort zone of my previous job to discover new challenges, a new perspective on law and new relationships. This has led to a renewed passion for my career.
All in all, it has been a valuable investment for me to join Herbert Smith and to be a part of this incredible team.
