Professional training

At Herbert Smith we want to help you achieve your true potential within the Law. That is why we make it as easy as possible for you to maintain and develop your legal qualifications, through a comprehensive range of professional training opportunities.

Legal skills training courses
Specific technical training is provided for each practice area, including formal and informal knowledge sharing. The legal skills training courses we offer are practical, interactive and have been designed specifically for Herbert Smith. All the courses are taught in small groups and provide one-to-one feedback on your performance. Many can be taught in half or full day options to fit in with your timetable.

We use a modular training approach, and the courses shown here represent just some of the options available:

  • Advocacy
  • Drafting
  • Negotiation
  • Interviewing and conference skills
  • Legal presentations and training lawyers
  • Research skills
  • Execution of documents
  • Adding value as a deal lawyer
  • Business development skills

We also develop bespoke training to suit individuals, where required, and offer extensive training on library and information systems when you join.

Risk management training
The risk management team provides a series of educational training sessions and materials to inform all staff of their professional obligations. This training is tailored to each practice area and to the level of qualification of the attendees. It is delivered through a mixture of informal training sessions, lectures, e-learning and internal bulletins.

Continual professional development (CPD) hours
A number of our courses comply with accreditation criteria for professional development.

Many of these are delivered internationally and tailored to comply with local accreditation criteria.
