Shaping the law
“We are committed to developing our reputation as one of the very few international law firms consistently at the forefront of legal developments, whether through acting on landmark work, developing new services or helping shape new laws.”
David Gold, senior partner (2005-2010)
We believe technical excellence is fundamental to the success of our firm. Our lawyers are at the forefront of legal thinking and participate as robustly in developing the law as they do in applying it.
We carry out bespoke work for clients which enables us to develop legal solutions completely new to the market. We have, for instance, advised Merrill Lynch on the first non-recourse Sukuk financing in relation to the development of the Villamar luxury residential development in the Bahrain Financial Harbour District.
We commit significant amounts of time in influencing the development of new legislation affecting our clients – such as the proposed changes to the Listing Rules in Hong Kong and the UK's Companies Bill.
We seek to develop the market's understanding of major legal trends. For example, we recently produced an award-winning study of how multinationals use alternative dispute resolution. Our "client change and sustainable development" group (C2SD), enhances the firm's capacity to provide innovative, comprehensive and timely legal advice on some of the most complex and pressing challenges faced by our clients.
This is what our clients expect and what prompted many of our partners and associates to practise law in the first place. It also makes our work more stimulating and rewarding - in the knowledge that we are helping to form the legal environment of tomorrow.
